Mississippi River above Flood Stage for over 120 days combined with heavy rains are pointing towards a very challenging year for many riverbank farmers this year. Got another rise coming next week...there will be many, many acres ( in the 10s of thousands, no doubt)not planted or planted then lost due to the flooding. I'll plant soybeans thru July if given the chance but the rivers( Miss and Ohio) need to get back into their banks ASAP. Many acres of prime farmland on protected side of our massive Army Corps of Engineer Levees are flooded due to massive rains, seeping and backwater flooding with flood gates closed for months. There is no place for the rainwater to go but out into the fields. This is the worst flood I've experienced in almost 40 years of planting on the riverbank....
