Seen an ad FNA wants to start handling their own grain and fertilizer. Known about they're fertilizer plant idea for awhile. Now need more money to handle grain to help farmers directly. Thought we had something like this called the CWB that just got taken away. Why is this any better idea? Talks about $88 a tonne we'd save by investing. Hopefully the facility is near you I guess? Lol. IMO middle men and penaltys (lost sales, spoilage, quality, accidents) would eat up extra money over marketing grain yourself properly. What's your thoughts?

FNA has been advertising for a little while now. They are trying to buy some/all/??? of The CWB.

As far as facilities goes, CWB has one at Alexander. They are building near Portage. And aren't they building 2 more in SK? For some reason I want to say one is near Kindersley, but I'm not sure on the other one.

I can't imagine this turning out any different than any other farmer owned ventures of the past. Starts out with lofty ideas of a better system then ends up top heavy with management positions and pensions eating up the proposed additional profits. We had farmer owned grain companies, Alberta Wheat Pool, Sask. & Manitoba Pools ect. they died a natural death from inefficiencies, why invest more money to go down the same path?

Another FNA pipe dream. They have been involved with CWB for some time now. The writing is on the wall now for the CWB. It is only inevitable it will be sold to a private interest so the fna is playing with the idea of buying it. Sounds like a swell idea in theory but not likely because of fna track record on other such ventures like the fert plant and the port terminal they tried to buy. Like was previously mentioned inefficiencies in management and present status quo of entitlement of a publicly run corporation will make it uncompetitive in the private grain trade. However buying the cwb is a far for more realistic and feasible goal than building a fert plant. Besides the infrastructure currently in place could allow them to source offshore fertilizer and store it. I won't give them any money though.

Well it has to be sold regardless, I have no opinion on it being FNA buying it, but who else should it go to? Just sell to one of the other players so we get more of the same or maybe Fed Co-op so everyone owns and work on profit sharing through dividends?

I don't know the answer but I do know I wish it was figured out before the Freedom for farmers came in. Maybe just another ploy by Gov't to play one farmer against the other.

FNA is doing the rounds in this area with information meetings. The timing could not be worse, the last thing I want to do at this time of year is shut down the combine to attend a meeting. But my curiosity level on this one is just about high enough to do so and head to town. Hope they keep it short and sweet.

BTW wmoebis thanks for the coffee delivery and visit the other night. That sure hit the spot

Pay attention guys: eff'n eh is in the business of selling memberships. That's their only business. Everything else is an aid to membership sales.

Yapping about buying grain or making fertilizer or whatever is a good way to keep the plonkers coming through the door with their membership money.
