Frost right now as I type this in parts of north western Alberta as well or in this yard anyway as its white on roofs, thin layer on vehicle windshields that are in the shade from the sun and on grass in the shade.

We have a frost advisory for tonight. Just when we thought our luck couldn't get worse. Really hoping we can miss it.

Ditto again, dumb question but how much frost does it take to do a number on Canola?

2.2 is said to be a killing frost, but how bad and how long are factors. Some years ago a frost in july wiped out lots of us, but did not hurt me as it was that cold but not at the ground, at least for me. I have been hit bad in the spring on canola, the experts say young canola is tough, hogwash. To many varables involved.

How is 2.2 a frost?

Frost that damages a canola plant requires water to crystalize in or between cell walls. Water doesn't freeze till 0.

If canola is very close to the dirt and moist even 0 won't freeze
it as the soil will radiate heat.

Really depends where you measure the temp. Try at ground level and you might be surprised at the difference from 3/4 feet above ground where most official sites measure.
A neighbour did some trials a few years back with ground level recording, answer won't help you sleep.

If the ground is black it will keep it warmer if it is zero tilled with lots of straw get ready to replant. My experience anyways.

Agree. It was 10 and I was spraying by 730. Much better than frost.
