What gauge was used for the sheet metal(the silver galvanized) for the l/m/n/etc combines? Someone nicely decided to back into my N on an approach to my field. Thankfully it looks like a simple enough piece to replace, just drill the rivets.

When a wheel spindle broke on my N and damaged the right real panel I got a replacement from our local salvage yard. I wondered if the rivet holes would line up but they did even though it was from an older machine. The black stripe decal is off a bit but the color of the metal matches pretty good. Shiny new metal might be quite obvious.

Well I mean it's a flat piece on the back, I figured it would be cheaper to go that way.

Also if anyone was wondering, if you do follow the manual's way of taking care of the sheet metal it stays pretty shiny. I'm sure not as shiny as new metal, but still shinier than the average 40 year old Gleaner.

Guess I missed the part in the manual about how to take care of the sheet metal. What do they suggest?

In my '83 manual they suggest to hand wash the machine with automotive grade soap then wax it like a car("use a durable wax designed for automotive use") so I can see why many did not, it would definitely take a while and water and combines don't really like each other...

It also suggests to use some polish made by them, but I can't find the successor. I did find out that battery acid and hytran will do the same though (whoops...)
