Hi all! I just joined this forum, but I have perused threads on here for the past few years.

A little bio, if you will.. I'm 24, I run a vegetable farm with my wife using a few acres of my parents farm (which they do not use for agricultural purposes). We sell retail to 3 farmers markets, one high end restaurant on a 2x per week basis, other restaurants on a pretty inconsistent basis, and to around 10-12 local home deliveries (almost like a pay-as-you-go CSA).

I got myself a 1960ish Gleaner E with a 10' grain head in November, 2014. I wanted to use it on wheat but things never go as planned, and I really don't have a good market for whole wheat. I could really use this machine for harvesting dried beans, which I know it can do, for smaller seeded brassicas (mustard, arugula, kale, etc) - which I am not sure it can do, flax seed - which I am not sure it can do, and for different herbs but specifically coriander or cilantro seed and dill seed - also, which I am not sure it can do.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with these things in anything other than cereals, corn and beans. Any info would really be appreciated! If I can't use it on those I'll just try and use it on wheat in 2016. I got it cheap enough so I don't mind it sitting. Just figured it would be cool to bring mustard seed and whatnot to market. I have a great clientele for using "from scratch" ingredients.

Sorry if this turned into a long winded thread! This is my first combine and I really love it. Just wanted to get some other uses out of it rather than cool pictures on my farms facebook page!

Thanks again,
John

Do you have an operator's manual? It should talk about various settings and necessary, IIRC they do talk about combining flax, and possibly mustard, but am not for certain.

What is your serial number? (should be on a plate, LH side, towards the rear) I would check eBay for a manual.

For a few acres, it will be a blast to run. Is it open station, or does it have a cab? Pics would be great.

We do have 3 or 4 E's in the salvage yard in Idaho, so if its a part that is mail-able, we could likely get it to you. Only downside is we are only out to the Idaho place a few times a year.

I know you already have the E combine but I have a Allis Chalmers model 90 all crop and as the name says all crop even if it is 60 years old is what you need to find . I don't think you will will not be harvesting a lot of acres ,so even it is small will do crops like you want to grow like dill.good luck.
