Replaced the drive belt on a Gleaner G combine. Started the engine and the belt was broke before I even got out of the cab. The belt was brand new, not used. It was a pretty clean break, not shredded. Any suggestions on what might have caused that? I hate to put on a new on just to see what happens. They're a little pricey. Thanks

traction drive or engine to mainshaft?

does the mainshaft roll over freely? pulley tight, or is wobbling on tapered splines?

idler lining up worth a darn?
