So the crary guards on our macdons probably have 5 or 6 seasons on them now...does anyone replace the guards when they get to a certain wear level or just as they break? Problem is the crarys don't really break...

We change the sickles every ~2500 acres of cutting or so, starting to wonder if we should be changing guards and holddowns every few years.

Do they have a good edge on them. Guards that are bad usually lead to broken knive. I have ran a grinder up the side to put and sharp edge on them

As long as you are satisfied with how they cut in tough conditions On our macdon, honybee headers the gap where the knive section runs after 5.8 MM they will have cutting issue,s Shoemacher claims that the 5.8mm gap is when you should change them
