Anyone combine oats with a gleaner? Our 62 has a hypered cage and rotor. We run corn and soybeans but my son is seeding hay with oats as a cover. Will I need to install a couple reverse bars to get a good sample? Running all forward now. Also, I understand the straw from a rotor is not good for baling. Thinking about just cutting the heads and spreading the straw, then using the mower-conditioner to mow the standing straw for baling. Any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks
Steve

I have combined oats with a R62 and a R65 both with the old 8 bar rotor all forward bars,no problem just set like book and go to it .I did drop knives on chopper and drop the straw it was green straw so got very good straw bales and oats straw seems to bring a premium around here.

Thought I would start by running the straw through the combine to see what it would be like. What speed did you run the chopper? Fast to pull the straw through or slow to keep the straw from breaking up? Oat straw is in demand here.
Thanks
