I see Harvester Works is laying off 120 people at the end of March. I feel terrible for the affected families of Quad Cities. Unfortunately, I think this is just the start. Can't see any machines going north of the 49th for a while. Lack of grain transportation has sent prices and prospects into the sewer.

And this is supply matching demand in the real sense.

Could all growers - food producers - learn something from this?

Most definitely.

yep layoffs are in Australia too. 1300 from a mining company this week , holden ,ford and toyota are closing car factories , fruit canneries were another coupla hundred.

The government keeps letting cheap imports in ,then turns around and tries to prop up companies or criticizes them for layoffs.

The amount of ocean imports have to travel and yet their cheaper than home made .

Bad management.

Big bad John Deere for laying off a guy with all the hardship home life he has.
I cannot understand laying off due to seniority, except that is probably a union thing. I would rather the lay off be based on merit.
And to blame Deere for the drop in business???? come on now!
The public just doesn't have a clue why employment exists, and suddenly vanishes.
