I always lease a combine from a farmer friend of mine near Kansas City to harvest my wheat in Southern Kansas. He being a corn/soybean man, he always has the corn concave(round bar) in his machine when he sends it down. In the past, it really hasn't caused too much trouble, only time it didn't work real well was a few years ago when the straw was extremely thick and the yield was high. We couldn't get the machine to clean very well, so we purchased some filler plates for the grates and that seemed to make it clean better. We still couldn't get all the chaff cleaned out, but it wasn't too bad. This year with the short wheat we will be cutting in a few days, I just wonder how that concave will work. Any ideas from you custom operators how to set this machine up to cut best, in the short, thin wheat we have this year?
thanks,
coadman
