Im probably going to be buying an r62 in the next week, and most of our acres our swathed, but I am looking at some older cheaper corn and flex heads to go with it and was just curious what changes they made over the years, From what I can figure out, Is it 83 and newer that will fit an earlier r62?, and what year did did they change the hookup on the 2 series to the newer lateral tilt compatiable feeder house? Was that 94 when they came out with the 4/500 series heads, or was it after that???

Also, is there anyt.hing wrong with the later chain driven corn heads?? I just dont think a hugger is in the bugget right now, but when I look under one there sure seems like a lot of idlers and chains to be worn out.

The hugger will be worth the extra money. We went to a hugger this year after having an A630 with chains. The maintenance was at least half of what the old one was. Not to mention it has a lower profile so any down corn slides in better. The hugger only has one chain if I remember correctly. No greasing the front of the snapping rolls every morning.

How many acres you going to put through it? We still run an '87 model N830 corn head on our R62 through 300 to 400 acres of corn each year. My biggest gripe on the black heads is adjusting the stripper plates but we don't have to do that very often. Yeah it would be nice to have a Hugger but keep the all the chains tight, oil 'em and grease it regularly and you'll get along for a lot less money.

well last year we were going to plant 40 and when we got done planting we had a little over 350, so Im going to say 400 because thats what we have lined up right now, but who knows. We did that 350 with a junk yard 43 massey but it was in pretty good shape by the end of the year because I put sealed idlers and new style gathering chains on it, and kept the knife rolls sharp.
