I would check your stripper plate clearance. The should nearly touch, if they do it makes an awful scraping noise, so you don't want that. I would assume your auger flighting is good, not rounded off our curled back. But, first place I would go it to adjust the clearance on your auger. Pretty sure you have too wide a gap, or badly worn stripper plates.

Back before the 7" flighting header we kind of got used to adding channel iron in first row of rivets in front of the front stripper. We lifted the auger, sheared off the rivets, laid some 1/2 X 1.5" channel iron next to holes, marked and drilled holes in channel, and then secured with the self tapping 5/16 torques screws that are used all over the header.

If it is bunching prior to auger you might look at hold down at rear of feather sheets. We have removed the hold down and then flipped feather sheets to make new holes and then secured without hold down.

If not feeding between fingers and feed chain you need to look at floor where straw nead to slide. It needs to be smooth with no pocket to hold up the straw. If getting up to speed and material stands in front of fingers and soon leaves strip of uncut material you need to install full height flighting all the way to center of finger area. We ordered and cut down many 30' auger flightings to make the pieces to do this job on many of these older 4" flighting augers.
