We have a 8550S Hesston with a 8070 15 foot header. We have a problem keeping bearings in the helper roller on the crimper. I read on a post some time ago that someone took out the helper roller and put a plate across behind the turtles. If anyone out there has done this it would be much appreciated to know how the machine worked after this modification and how wide a plate you need to put in there. It would be great to here from someone soon, Thankyou

Have you had the helper roll checked? Should be no more than .060" out of round.. If more, it could be the source of your premature bearing failures. I would take it to drive line shop before trying to run without it..
