I got the second check and text Alonzo but he has gone silent. Never to climax, kind of disheartening.

I encourage you to play the game with them, just don't fall in the trap, its quite entertaining.

I think you might just be a little too eager, you need to ease into it a little first, build a connection, you know a simple "how's it going?" doesn't hurt before you ask the big question.

Had a gal call once I asked what she was wearing she kept saying no and bouncing back to my vehicle warranty, after a few go arounds she said this is a call about your vehicle warranty, I said it was but I turned it into a call about what you're wearing, she hung up

Middle eastern guy called a couple weeks ago trying to sell me viagra. I asked if that was the boner medicine and he said yes. I said I used that the other night on a hooker and then asked him if he ever had a hooker, he said no, I said yeah me either. Then I asked if he needed boner medicine, he said no and asked if I used it. I said no but I'm rock hard right now. He hung up.

Had a gal call once about viagra too. I told it was pretty personal and I didn't even know her and that maybe we should go out a few times before discussing sex. She hung up.

Sometimes I feel like I'm winning.

Vacation ones are the best to mess with. You can string them along forever. My record is 4 different people in one sitting. They only hang up when you ask if hookers for the wife are included in the 5 star "experience".

Just when you think every strange name, or number or accent is a scammer, one turns out to be legit.

We do some custom breaking, and I had two calls this year that I wasn't even going to entertain, had all the hallmarks of a scam.

One, a middle eastern name, accent, not very knowledgeable about the subject, not a local number, but claimed to be local. Turned out to be an excellent customer, who bought some land nearby, really appreciated some local insight, we've learned a lot from each other, he drove a hard bargain, but wants to do more business in the future.

The other was similar, but never got to find out if it was legit, since it was too wet to work in his area all fall. Evidently is really is legitimate.

Back in the day of scammers coming travelling door to door, my long since retired Grandpa had all the time in the world to entertain them( and Mormons too). He'd invite them in, and waste hours of their time if possible.

Some good reading here.

Good point. We need to be careful not to get jaded.

I got an email a few years ago that I almost deleted because it smelled like a scam. I replied and that turned into a phone call and I still wasn't 100% sure that it wasn't a scam. It turned out to be a real client with a serious knowledge gap about agriculture and a major language barrier. Its not always a scam.

Got a CRA call a few weeks ago, right around the holidays. Got the "arrest warrant issued" lingo and the caller insisted I owe CRA $7,000 to which I replied NO, I owe $17,000. I then dissed him (CRA) for not even knowing what was owed and that I just wanted to get him paid TODAY and put an end to the matter. He promptly suggested I send him a Western Union directly to his office in Halifax, Canada (i.e. NOT Halifax, Nova Scotia) to which I replied that I couldn't, since Halifax is east of Ontario, I would have to send him an EASTERN UNION. He asked what an Easten Ontario was, to which I replied that it was the same as a Western Union, only the money is sent in the opposite direction. I thought I lost him there but no, he said go ahead and send the Eastern Union. Damn! I thought for a few seconds then profusely apologized for my error, since I dealt with the First Bank of Newfoundland, I COULD, in fact, send a Western Union after all, since Newfoundland is east of Halifax, to which he replied "okay"! I then asked him the diameter of his telephone or headset cord, to which he replied "why"? I then told him the First Bank of Newfoundland takes "wiring money" seriously and actually stuffs the cash through the phone line, all in $7 AND $23 denominations, so it would take a while to send $17,000. It was at this very moment that i found my CRA rep DID NOT have a sense of humour, told me he had people in my neighbourhood and that they'd be a comin' and a callin', to which I replied, "well, that saves a lot of work, I have 17 grand in foreign currency, from the country of Mononopolous; - I would be happy to pay him in full with Monopoly money"; - I have not gotten a single call since. Thank goodness this happened on my lunch break and it was a slow day!

Always remember when playing with scammers do not use the word "yes" or anything similar. That can be recorded and used to make false agreements.

Its more difficult than one would think, they'll say your name and ask if its correct, I'll say that's me. Can you hear me gets answered I can. Substitute correct, perhaps, maybe, possibly for yes.
