I need a sprayer asap but not a big budget. so looking at finding an older 854 rogator. So far I found two to choice from one is a 2000 model with 5300 hrs on it and the other is a 1996 with 3800 hrs. Both equip the same and are priced within a thousand dollars of each other. Witch one would be the better unit ? I think there was a change in wheel motors in 97.. So would the extra hrs on the 2000 still make it a better deal than the 1996 or is it getting to the end of its life at 5300 hrs. All comments welcome and thanks in advance..

Our 96 854 has about 6400 hrs on it. Previous owner did rear wheel motors around 4500 hrs. I was having trouble with section shut off valves, switched them to electric around 5000 hrs. Other than that just maintain it and run it, seems like a tough simple unit.

02 854 5600hrs 1 new wheel motor as a result of being stuck and cutting seal out new engine around 5200hrs run strong but had oil leaks and could not keep the exhaust manifold bolts tight or from breaking off put a reman motor in it I think was less than $6000

Our 98 model has 5900hrs on it, no major components been touched, had gear selector valve fail bout 1500 hrs ago, done the wheel motor seals bout 1000hrs ago, had the the section valves start to stick at around 4000 hrs, just swapped the rubber boots inside them and away they go again..cant really fault it hey.

Thanks for the comments guys much appreciated. I had a chance to look at both units this weekend and they are very similar in condition and price. So right now im leaning toward the 2000 with higher hours mainly because of the heavier wheel motors and how nice it shifts over the 2 speed transmission. Also heard if a wheel motor goes the newer ones are cheaper to replace.
What do you guys think is this right?
