so i got a 1967 JD 55 was combining fescue seed
we had a lot of stems get rapped around the discharge auger any idea what i did wrong
also the hopper dont empty by its self i had to constantly push the seed into the auger with a shovel & i had completly removed the adjable blocking device

Problem is the grass seed (and the stems!) Other than setting the combine to clean better, I don't think there's a solution to the stuff bridging in the hopper.

If you had said it wouldn't take the seed through the auger after you pushed it in, than I would say there might be some other problem inside the auger like flighting broken off and pushed back etc.

Going back 40 + years, When the hopper is empty, set a pitch fork on the auger flighting .before unloading lift the pitch fork tines out of the flighting, engage the auger and start stirring .I think we unloaded at idle.
