We threw our dividers like that off and replaced with different ones. When turning in corners or tight turns they flatten the crop on the slower moving end cause they stick out so far,and in very ripe canola because they are so huge and long they open lots of pods on the ends.In tough peas because they are so huge they push a lot on the ends and you have to go out and clear it off.The newer headers have very simple curved rod type ones like many other headers have but they are very expensive. You can get some from Lankota (that work excellent) that just slip into the square tubing on the end once you remove these ,and secure with one bolt. They are over 400 bucks for a pair,if you have multiple units buy one pair and make the rest yourself, that way you can make them more heavy duty because the the rod on the end tends to break off when you encounter a rock.
I took ours off for lankotas. Bought them at auction. For $75. Replaced them because of what was stated above, but also they stick out so far it makes storage a pain. I’d remove the old ones for long term storage. Short ones stay on all the time.
Not on the John Deere's. They are held in suspension by a mechanical spring for up and down movement. For lateral tilt height sensing in Flex Mode there is a sensor attached to the flex float arms on the left most and right most side of the header. And for ground preasure sensing in flex mode there is a different sensor on the right end which is attached to a long rod that runs along the underneath of header which is moved up or down by the anyone of the many float arms underneath. In Rigid Mode there are three or four ( depending on width) other sensing arms that are used for of the ground header height control.
