Hi guys im in the process of restoring my grandfathers jd model r. Now i've just purchased a square back 65 combine to go behind it. The one my grandpa had was an engine driven model. I believe it was an earlier roundback model. Now my question is, will the r have enough power to run it with the pto? i cant find much info on it, only newer deeres on them. (70's, 720's) The most work it will do is an afternoon. I think it would be pretty neat to see it running beside 3 sts's.
Thanks,Shawn

R is 7 or 8 short of the 70 I beleive. The combine I bought is running for 200 bucks so I didn't go too far wrong on it. I'm thinkin if I take it easy on her I shouldn't have a problem. Seems funny to be questioning 10hp in this day and age haha

guess you're right! I always thought the r was realy close. My 70 is a row crop so i spose the shorter tires on the r make it seem like it has more when plowing. Ha ha those diesel 2poppers hold there own pretty good. Im sure it will be fine. Mite not keep up with the sts though... :) ive tryd bailing small squares with a 730 n found the unsteady rpms like to shear more pins when it got tough. Im not a deere guy but love the 2bangers! Post some pics when ya get her in the field!
