Had two closely related and very inconsistent issues with our 8310 last year during seeding. Just wanna see if I can get it fixed for this year before we get started seeding. Here are the two codes that I got
CODE ECU 54 - Intermittent loss of Engine Control Unit (ECU) power supply
CODE PCU 5 - Fuel flow signal from ECU missing (Warning)

Stalling

The tractor would stall just for an instant (like 1 second) and then come back up to operating rpm (1800rpm). Sometimes it would do this multiple times in a day or sometimes just once in a day, I even went 2 full weeks without anything happening. It did this maybe 15-20 times in the 150hrs of work last spring. and 2 of those times it stalled completely and needed a restart. It was inconsistent in when it would happen

Revving

The tractor would be pulling just fine when all of sudden my transmission light and warning come on and the tractor goes right up to max throttle so my first reaction is to shut tractor off immediately. So I would wait a minute or so and start it again just keep going and it hasn't happened as much as the stalling but still just as bad of a problem. This maybe happened 3 times in 150hrs.

I already replaced fuse F12 and swapped relay K13 and that didn't do anything. When it warms up a bit I will try putting some dielectric grease in the plugs on the injection pump and hopefully that fixes it but I somehow doubt that is the problem. Has anyone else had this problem or provide some insight for what to check next

Start by checking all wiring in starting/charging system starting with the battery connections and cabin relay. I had a similar problem before with the wires on the alternator being in bad shape

Hope this helps!

I had issues with my 8100 with the engine running erratically, mainly at idle. It turned out to be a faulty fuel temperature sensor. I know your symptoms are different but it still sounds electrical. The sensor wasn't expensive.

I also had that a little bit too. Sometimes while sitting idle (850rpm) out of nowhere it would jump up to 1000-1100 rpm for maybe a second or two, but again it happened very rarely and was very inconsistent.

connections, connections, connections. You are looking at a tough fix. Its not easy to find an intermittent fault.

I'd start by unhooking every connector. Look closely at every pin. Do any show signs of arcing (easier said than done). After reassembly do all the individual wires feel secure?

Check all the ground straps.

Then you can start inspecting the wiring for signs of chafing, but I don't think thats the problem. Intermittent opens in wires often get worse quickly.

So far replaced a few cheap parts (fuses, relays, diodes) and put some dielectric grease in the plug at the injection pump. Checked out as much as I could in the system and I did find one thing that could be the cause but I don't really see how. Anyway, I found out the tractor is only starting on one battery (the bottom one). the other battery's T terminal has snapped off but is still lightly touching the battery post and could possibly arc? Just wondering could something a simple as that cause the issues I've been having. I guess it doesn't really matter since it should be fixed anyway even if its not the cause.

Maybe/maybe not but it is sure good you found that before it could have potentially started a fire.

Hoping you would have found something more obvious but it is a good place to start and who knows you may have fixed it

At least it might not go up in flames;)

Have you checked if it is getting fuel. We had troubles with our 9760 when a fuel cap was left off. The sediment bowl was full of crud. Also there was a check valve on a fuel line that was partially plugged. This caused a lack in power and/or stalling. Not sure about the overreving though. Sensor codes did come up as a result but was not the problem.

The bad battery cable would be a red flag voltage spikes can raise havoc with things. As said I would clean all the connections I can find especially grounds they can cause problems. I would put a volt meter on it and watch it to see if the voltage is fluctuating when acting up. Could be bad voltage regulator in the alt

I am almost at my wits end with this tractor now, almost a week behind seeding thanks to it and the last few days have been the worst. The tractors issue has become a lot more consistent. What I did first was got a new battery cable and also picked up a new alternator from karam in saskatoon since the old one was surging sometimes up to 18 volts (put a multimeter on the A1 powersupply to the ECU). But the new alternator still didn't fix it. Before I put the new alternator in these were some codes that would come up

ECU 22 - Sensor supply voltage out of range
ECU 36 - Fuel injection pump rack position voltage out of range or
- Engine does not start, runs erratically, or possible power changes
ECU 28 - Engine Control Unit (ECU) error

Now the only code I get is ECU 28. All I did was shut the tractor off for the day yesterday and now when I start it will run just fine for about 3-5 seconds and then the warning and engine light turns on along with the code ECU 28 every time. As soon as my 3-5 seconds run time is up it will either come to a complete stall or will rev up to full rpms. Got an ECU ordered and on its way but now its the weekend and it wont be here until monday morning as it is coming out of edmonton.
