Customer called last night and said his 4830 lost 4th gear and will not go above 20mph. He can run through the gears on the hydro handle and 4th shows up as its being commanded but will not engage. Since I quit my job at John Deere they will not help me with which solenoids on the wheel motors control what gears. I am suspecting a broken wire or fauly solenoid and can't find an online tech manual for them. Thanks

Sounds like for fourth all shift solenoids should have magnetism.

First - All four no magnetism
Second - Two front magnetism
Third - Two rear magnetism
Four - All four magnetism

Turn the machine off, turn the key on, shift to 4th and take the hydro handle out of park then check for magnetism at each wheel motor coil with a small screw driver or piece of haywire etc. They should all be magnetized. The one that isn't is the problem, either a bad coil or bad wire likely.

Found a broken wire on the left solenoid.

I just lost 2nd,3rd, and 4th gear in my 4830 yesterday. Mine is stuck in first gear, I can shift up and it shows on the display but does not actually up shift.

Which solenoids are you talking about? Where are they located? I suspect a broken wire here also.

They are on the back of the wheel motors. If you lost 2, 3 & 4 it could also be a software issue. May need a software update.

Had a rainy day so I looked into my 4830 that lost all gear shifting and it was just the f-26 fuse was blown. That fuse controls trac loc and shifting. I like fixes like that. Cheap and easy.
