Just wondering if people are having problems with the inside bearing on the standard duty planetary drives? We have had a couple of failures on a few of ours, every time it has been the inside bearing toward the combine never the outside 2. Anything we can do to prevent this?

What combine? sts, S series, 9600? Is it planetary (heavy duty), or bull gear (standard duty) design. I have rebearinged lots of bull gear style on 9600 combines. The headers got bigger and people added extensions to the grain tanks. You can figure it out from there.... Not much you can do. Measure play on bearings every year and rebearing when up down play gets above about 0.010, going by memory. Never seen a spec on this. Put dial indicator on housing and spindle. Jack up combine and zero then set back down. Can be almost impossible to reach in side of wheel to do this.

We have 9650's and 9660's. All standard duties, first one did all the bearings then started to find out it was all the inner bearing and never the outter2 , so we started to do just the inner one, a lot quicker to get the machine back in the field, we haven't had problems with the outter bearings even on the plaint arise we changed just the inner one, have you found a lot of outtter bearing failures?
