Can any of you identify this planter for me and give me some idea of how old it is? and possibly more importantly were they any good? Over here in Europe these are rare machines, I have never seen one quite like it. Its for sale and its got no numbers on it and I want to know what I am dealing with before driving a couple of hours away to see it. The guy selling it doesn't seem to know much about it. I need to plant corn and sunflowers. Its a "mechanical" not pneumatic, if that makes sense (I am not sure of the correct terminology for the USA version of the english language! I am an Englishman in France). Thanks for you help.

I could be wrong, but I think the reason there is no number on the frame is because that is an aftermarket or home made frame. Somebody has come up with a clever way to make an old 7x00 planter a narrow transport because that is likely necessary in Europe?

That's a good point, now you mention it it does have a home made look to it and that would explain why I haven't been able to find one like it. So if its a 7x00, its going to be from the 1990s or something like that?

We are lucky in France that we can legally go to 3.5m which is about 11ft without an escort on the road though even that width is tricky in some places. Some places in europe you have to fold to below 10ft. When I see things like field cultivators that are 20 ft wide or more folded up I wonder how you cope. .

How does the mechanical metering work on these JD 7x00 planters and will it handle sunflowers as well as corn?
