Hi I am looking at buying some land around kindersley sk. I am not too familiar with the area but think some of you might be. We are currently farming in Alberta and would keep that my home base. I'm just wondering what yields a guy can expect, also how often would you run into drought or flooding conditions? Also what kind of inputs does a guy go with? What areas are good or bad around there and anything else a guy can share is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Also what would land price be? That's a lot of questions but I'm just trying too do my homework.

It was having a mini boom before oil prices went into the tank. Pretty sure land prices in 1500-2500 acre. And I may be low

I'm a little disappointed by people's reaction to someone that makes a living doing the same thing they do. I'm just a farmer looking too expand and utilize my equipment better. I would have no problem sharing some info about my area. I thought that's why we were all on this site to share info, to help a guy out.

I think most guys feel there is enough competition for land driving up prices from local residents, and are not interested in outside money coming in. Particularly when the new investor states they will not be living in or contributing to the community. Just there to grab and go.

Wouldn't panic AFB, thread not even 10 hours old, the jokesters are probably done.

Not sure why anyone would be surprised at a bit of adverse reaction, some will see this as just increased competition as in the "bad for price when I'm thinking of buying" crowd.

Not to worry, answers will come your way even if by the PM route.

Out of curiosity why would you want to farm in two separate provinces?
Or do you farm just west of the border and are relatively close to Kindersley?

Why??

As much as still wonder if this thread not started to stir up the pot, to answer your question Oliver land in AB that likely not even as good as Kindersley would cost twice as much and may not even be available in some areas. FWIW - think there fair amount of land in that Kindersley area farmed by ab interests so it not so unusual.

The reason is land doesn't come up for sale much around here, and we are looking too expand the price for land around here is 5200 an acre which is tough too pencil out. Kindersley is further south and therefore earlier by about two weeks at seeding harvest time. This way a guy can probably get around 300-350 rotor hours on a combine. We figure by operating in 2 places we can spread our risk and work load. Thanks for asking

Makes sense, but not Kindersley or Rosetown. You want to go a bit further south to Gull Lake, Sk. Just run down highway 41 and jogg over on #1 - would be an easy move! Nice wide highways and not much traffic.

Ok, I figured it was to do with spreading out weather risk and possibly cheaper land but was curious.
I can see $5200/acre putting an end to farm expansions there.
I never thought of utilizing your equipment more with staggered harvest dates.
