I need a light seed fan kit about two days ago, and cant get one fast from the dealer so I guess Im building one. Im thinking of different ways to block off the fan and was curious how the factory option worked, does it block off more of the fan where the air coke shield pivots, or does it go under the sieve to keep air from moving through the sieve after the air comes out of the fan??

I had a light seed kit installed for canola. It is a perforated sheet that restricts the intake on the fan. If you put it in after the fan, it screws the air flow balance between shoe, and pre cleaner. One will have a disproportionate amount of air going through it. Too much air in one or the other. What are you harvesting that you need the kit right away? You can do canola and mustard without it, just a lot more sensitive to adjustments. Good luck!

We have some experience with switchgrass which is LIGHT. We found if we build a second choke that will fold out of the way when not in use, and when deployed it will allow the top choke to meet it and thus completely choke off the air if necessary. The lower pivot point is at the front sheetmetal angle that is the beginning of the fan bottom. If it is made a tad narrower than the walls it will allow the pivot rods to be made like the oem small seeds kits and lock in and out via holes drilled in the side wall with coil compression spring on the opposite side holding it in. This will not allow upper and lower scroll air adjustments but will limit the air and has worked well in R series and F2-L2's

We've built choke just as tbran describes. If you close to far it will actually suck air from top air duct to accelerator rolls. Best thing about a choke like this if it should work for you is it won't plug up. The factory kit has damper for both upper and lower duct and can have screens installed over the damper to further reduce or increase air. Trouble with these is they can plug if you are sucking in any foreign material and should be monitored. We ended up with the factory kits in the guys machines that do grass around hear.

I hope to post some pictures, but I think I figured out a pretty clever and super super simple way to to it, I just took two 8 inch long pieces of 2 x 2 channel iron and welded them on the frame walls right in front of the fan opening, then I simply cut a couple 2x4 boards and drop them in the channel, I can also put a gap inbetween the two 2x4s and or cut a couple half moon holes in them to increase air flow, along with using my existing air choke, and when its time for normal crops, I just slide the boards out the top of the channel. I hate building things out of wood but this one seems like a good idea, can anyone think of any problems right off the bat with this ?
