I know there is allot of expertise on here so I am asking.
I am going to replace the upper and lower raddle chains on a M3.
I can remember when I replaced the lower sprokets getting the chain master link out was a real pain. What or how do you guys go about changing them out.
Thanks

If needed I can scan in the service manual pages for replacing the rattle chains for the M3. The lower one looks to be a PIA. We checked the chain tension on our M3 2 weeks ago and comented on that it looks like a job to replace it.

Open the inspection doors that go across bottom of the raddles, get your master link to the opening, move tensionn from chain, uncouple the master, then hook the new chain to the old one, making sure your Z slats are headed right, and use the old chain to pull the new one in. I've changed them alone, but would be easier with 2.

orangeguy hit it right on the head. Also, if you're replacing the sprockets double check that they're on right. Found this out on an L2. We had one sprocket that we had to turn 180 degrees or else the raddle chain ran crooked. You wouldn't think that would make a difference but we found out it does. Took a while to figure that one out.

Thats how I chged them also, and you are right on the 180deg out, I found that out on upper chain on 87 L3. If I recall roll pin hole is in valley of tooth and on top of tooth on drive sprocket. Position same on both side and chain runs true. I've done many alone, first time can be clumsy, but not too bad. Good Luck.
