When switching from rigid to flex mode on the maxflex 1200 header you are supposed to remove the 4 feelers and bolt up the sensors which is kind of a pain and actually takes a fair bit of time. I am wondering if there is a way to get around this? Would it be possible to tie up feelers and still have everything function normally? Whats your thoughts on this?

Nope, because that could still enable the rigid mode sensors to occasionally operate in range, when the cutter bar is in flex position, and interfere with the lateral tilt sensors working with the flex cutter bar.

They aren't that hard to take off and on. It can be done in 15 mins. or less. Unless your wheat and soybean harvests overlap, It's not like you'll need to switch them more than once a year.

My harvest went wheat, peas, wheat, soybeans, canola, soybeans, canola and i dont own a cordless impact so there was a few hours spent swichting between flex and rigid this past fall. I would agree that a cordless impact would make things alot easier! Claas salesman should throw one in with each header purchase lol

May I suggest milwaukee fuel 18 volt products if you want cordless. The 4.0 batteries combined with there tools are great. Greasegun, two half inch impacts of different sizes, flash light, 1/4" driver, drill, all have been a great help.

guys take time to remove the flex plate on those maxflex headers and clean that pivoting arm that is atached to the sensor its pivots up and down with as the sensing band folows the groung cleaning it out on a free day and lubing it up can save headaches

+1 seed cleaner
Add a grinder (wish mine was fuel) and a m12 rotary tool and your pretty much set....really wish they would/could make a cordless "air" hammer ?

Would definitely look into a cordless impact $330 vs max flex 60k ish = 0.5%ish

Unless the maxflex 1050 is different then the 1200, we don't remove the feelers. 3 seasons now with the 1050 and all we do is lift the flex knife up to closed and do a relearn for header height. Takes all of 5 minutes and all done in the cab. We also don't lock the knife up as we drop the flex knife down, when in down lodged crops to shave the ground then raise it back up. we never had any issues doing this other then knife straps. we went through 2 straps one year and 3 this year. Don't see how you can hurt anything either by doing it this way. We are also using this header on a 590 with the update module for the Maxflex series headers. hope this helps.

So when in flex mode you leave the feelers hanging down? As if they would in rigid mode?

Yes I leave them down. I just do a relearn with cebis header height. When it's time to use flex mode I drop the knife down and redo the relearn in cebis. Has work great for me.
