MF 760 Engine Oil Cooler Q's.

I am trying find the source of oil in the coolant on our MF 760 with turboed 354 engine. I, of course, suspect the oil cooling heat exchanger that is in the bottom of the rad. I would like to verify this before I start taking it apart.

The oil lines come out of the oil filter base and go to the rad. For testing, if I unhook those lines and just plug the ports in the filter base will the oil bypass internally or will that stop all flow of engine oil?

Thanks,
JP.

Are you sure what you are looking at.
I may be wrong but when you say the oil lines coming from the filter to the base of the Rad.
The one I had (many years ago, but that is another story)
The oil cooler was something that looked like a big filter on the lower left side of the engine
Taking this apart reveals the finned cooler inside.
If this is the case the pipes to the Radiator carry water
