have any Aussies used moddus PGR on barley?

I have a crop of compass which is loving life a little to much atm, just on z30 with 64mm of rain this week and a little too advanced for my likeing. The crop will be irrigated and lodging is a concern if current growth rates continue.

There is alot of info in uk about this, as I have been studying it to death...if you use PGR at g30 will need two doses because they get what they call bounce back if further favourable conditions apply...I think the second dose is around G40...don't quote me it's one of the ten thousand PDF documents I have!...may pay to watch any further N and maybe mix with potash to try and increase stem cell strength, you can foliar apply calcium but it's dear...PGR ain't cheap either..

I suppose grazing is out of the questions if its that wet and no fences?

Good luck..

Ant..

Yep, I have used it in "Commander" barley here in South Australia. X80 is right with his comments - we used 300 ml/ha at gs30 and then a further 200ml/ha at gs38-40. It shortened the crop and left it standing nicely after a rain and wind event. Approx 10% yield bonus, but did notice extra screenings.

There is plenty of info for euro conditions, however it's a completely different ball game over there so I was hoping someone might have done some work with it over here. I will definitely be doing some trials it's just a matter of how big a trial it is at $20+ a ha.

The crop is now at the crossroads of pushing for maximum yield vs supplementary irrigation to get it over the line, and with the start it has had I'm inclined to push it. Nitrogen has been carefully managed and root growth is great ( just pulling from80cm on the c probe before the rain) I can slow it a little with irrigation timing but grazing is not an option.

put 1 litre cyclocel and 200ml moddus over some heavy scope barley at gs30 a couple of years ago, then went back with .5 cycocel a bit later. kept it standing up (ended up with a terrible wind and lost 2odd tonne on the ground before harvest) . been using 500 cycocel and 100 moddus over saintly durum at 30/31 for last few years, the moddus is fairly aggressive (and $$$) and this year going to just use cycocel. have got some pictures of that crop but cant work out how to put em up.
