Re: More help for a neighbor;2188 header shuts off

We had that problem this year with a '03 2388. The air screen was plugging, causing the coolant temp to rise, then shutting down the feeder. Cleaned the air screen off, shut the combine off to erase the feeder code then everything was good. Thats the only time we've had an issue with it shutting off like that.

Don't know the year, but the header shuts off after maybe a tank or two. Has to let things cool for about 15 minutes. He has inspected and changed several breakers and relays. Do you think this is header related, if so, what/where. The real turns on but not the header. Does the 21 have the header shutoff like the 2388 when the engine gets too warm. Any help for him much appreciated. Thanks

Look at the exhaust pipe and see if it is broken where it makes a 90 degree turn. Could be blowing hot air on the sensor{cant rember the name of it} but it will shut off the feeder.

could it be the speed sensor pickup on the idler for the reversor . I know that if the feeder chain slows down for a fiew seconds the feeder automaticly shuts off . and the sensor could be out of adjustment or going bad .

We had the same problem with a 98 2388. The radiator had to be washed out. The radiator had gotten wet sometime and had gotten all the chaff set up in the fins.
Be sure to get the radiator dry before you go back to the field.

Re: More help for a neighbor;2188 header shuts off

This wouldn't have anything to do with overheating, but we had this problem on our 2588 this year: the feederhouse drive shaft that goes through the combine was loose, the keys on the right side were slipping out, and the sensor on the left side was getting out of line and shutting the head off. We put new keys in with lock tight and haven't had a problem since.
