Never heard of a mud hog before. I see lots of people checking out your post but no responses so I guess not many others knew what they were either. A quick Google search led me to this site. I hope it helps.

I think the factory option is around $16,000. I'm sure you can find salvaged for about half that. Hard to find a combine in the south without rwd. Seems like a lot in the mid-west are 2 wheel drive.
I sold and installed 3 Mud Hog kits this year, all on STS combines. I sold them for $19,000 CAN plus $2000 for the 26" rim kit. The bolt pattern is different so almost guaranteed you have to buy rims. Install takes about a day for an experienced tech. This is a 2 spd kit which is really nice to have. It gives you lots of different speed and torque ranges on the hydro. Normally with 2wd you have just your 3 ranges. But with the hi and lo 4wd you now have 3 ranges in each transmission gear because of the different oil displacement usage on the 4wd motors. Eg- 3rd gear on trans, 4wd in hi your top speed is 12 mph and you have enough torque to cross a soft field so you don't have to putt along in 2nd gear at 7mph. Its almost as good as Prodrive. Deere 4wd was 2spd after 2001 so keep that in mind if you're looking for a salvage kit.

Mud Hog is a brand of RWD axle for combines. They are one of 2 manufacturers that I know of. The Tuthill Corporation purchased Mud Hog's name and company in 1999, combining the manufacturing of Mud Hog hydraulic axles with its current line of integrated suspension systems. When Mud Hogs popularity expanded, Tuthill made the brand a separate line of business, calling it Tuthill Drive Systems. They are located in Brookston, IN. They are great bunch of people. We had a wheel motor on the Mud Hog on our 8010 blow a seal this fall, and they rebuilt it for us. Got us going in about 6 hours. Mud Hog designed the factory RWD axle for John Deere then at the last minute John Deere refused to sign the papers for them to produce the axle. John Deere instead took the design to another company to manufacturer the axle. So Mud Hog does have a axle for your 9660. In fact John Deere is the only OEM manufacturer that Mud Hog doesn't make the axle for original equipment. As far as cost call (219) 279-2801, and ask for RJ. I can tell you it's cheaper to go direct. A new wheel motor for our 8010 was $14,000 form CaseIH and $12,000 direct from Mud Hog. We opted for them to rebuild ours for $4,500.

Mud Hogs are RWA for 2WD combines. They will help you pull out of the mud when you are getting slippage and also they will help lessen soil compaction by the high torque in the torque/speed ratio. They have helped a lot of farmers to be able to harvest on time in rainy, wet weather. If you need a mudhog please call to get yourself one!
