hey guys hows it going. well i got a call from one of my boss's the other day (I haven't even had time to call him back yet but I will soon.) and he was wondering when I was going to post up some pictures of our summer. So I have found some free time from going to class here at Ohio State and I'd like to share them with yall.

First off I'd like to say a thank you to the guys at Stevens Entities for a great summer, even if it was short lived because of school. I was able to join up with the crew on june 21 and ran with them until september 14. I answered their add on here looking for help and with that I was put right to work in the grain cart. a jonh deere 9220 and brent 1084 (soon to be a 1194 once we got home to NE and into corn) This was the very first time for myself to be in this big of a tractor prior a deere 4440. Let along learn that it was just me incharge of keeping 5 combines running (4 9660's w/36ft heads and a 9560 w/25ft head)

I had a blast with the guys and it was really cool to see how well of a crew we had become by the time I had left.so with that here are some pics and the rest are on facebook. 9 albums 60 pics in each. and a few videos.

Re: My Harvest 2007

there has to be a way just to get you guys to the link to see the pics. alex ryan has the same thing on lefebure, its just I dont know how to link them correctly.

on that situation nothing got torn up pulling him out of the ditch. I snapped a 5/8 steel cable twice but we just pulled him out from an angle with no problem.

and on that machine the night before when he got stuck i had to yank him out with slack in the rope, whipping him out. and doing that we broke the lift cylinder for the chopper.

Re: My Harvest 2007

haha in a tube....well that tube is the insides of my brent 1084 grain cart, and thats me in there. that is where the belly auger is for the grain cart. that auger is some 10ft long splits in two halfs. well what happened was before I joined the Stevens crew while they were in texas i think one of the bolts that hold the grain control gates came out. there are four gates in there and the one broke was the front righthand side. these bolts ate tack welded on the nut side, which is inside the cart where I am. and each control gate is about 5 ft long with three rectangular fingers that plug those hole to stop the grain from falling into the belly auger. so when that bolt came out the auger got ahold of a finger and tore it up, they cut out the old finger and we ran it with one hole open until there you see me in there fixing it.

I was the person who always was "inside of" machines fixing them.

Great pics. How much grain was left in the cart once that little bin was full? Whats the deal with the Massey? After seeing what happened to the sign post, I was wondering if that's what happened to him.

scassell...
"How much grain was left in the cart once that little bin was full?"
It was a staged picture, didn't really unload into the bin. did it just to get a good looking photo.

"Whats the deal with the Massey?"
We were on our way from Kansas to South Dakota and passesd him on the way. to the extreme right is his semi that some how became unattached from the trailer. Dout he was happy that day.

"After seeing what happened to the sign post, I was wondering if that's what happened to him."
The sign post was in a completly different area. one of the operators didnt see it and with 36ft worth of header mad quick work of it. lol

lol. yeah i was the smallest in the crew. I also wanted to actually be in there myself because it was my rig. so if something else down the line were to go wrong I'd hopefully know what it was.

I saw the smoke in the background of one picture, what is burning? I wonder if it is one of the green combines burning, I have seen several of them catch fire this season.

if it was the picture in corn, for some reason all the chaff coming out the back was black smoke. but we never had a combine durring our harvest catch fire. seen some neighboring but never ours.

Wow. Plus one from me also. You have great picture taking skills. I have a couple questions for you.

Why are you using an auger cart to dump into a bin, another cart, and a Quonset hut?

Wasn't it allitle to wet out there?

Did you get stuck out there?

Thanks for the pictures. Really nice work.

Re: My Harvest 2007 *Update 1*

thanks caseihfan.

and to answer your questions...

"Why are you using an auger cart to dump into a bin, another cart, and a Quonset hut?"
The Bin picture was just Staged, didn't really dump into it. My boss and I thought it would make a pretty cool looking picture to see the 1084 dumping into that little bin.

The picture of cart-to-cart was beacuse of the other cart getting stuck in a low spot of a corn field. so I came and took his load off so he could try and pull himself out. the picture of him dumping and the next one down you can see how bad he is stuck by all the mud compacted on his tires.

The dumping in the quonset occured because I only had a few hundred pounds of grain left and all the trucks were either dumping or had just left, It was also the last of that field before we moved so instead of filling a truck with my few hundred pounds we decided to open the already full quonset up and sqeeze in that very last bit.

"Wasn't it allitle to wet out there?"
yes in spots. when we hit up corn it was all wet corn and we had been battling rain for that two weeks while we got to Nebraska. for the time that I got to work in corn before I left was a total of 14 days. sept 1-14. and all the pictures of us in corn stuck was only 2 fields. but the area we were in was very sandy soil. we fought with low spots that just held water like i've never seen before and sandy sink holes, which they hit the day after I left. they had to get two bigger 4x4 tractors out to pull some of the machinery out.

"Did you get stuck out there?"
Yup sure did. 1 time in kansas. about one week into learning the cart and we were in a dry land. but we were opening up a field all five combines go right through the area where i got stuck and didn't even disturb the soil. I was on my way back around to dump with a full cart 60,000 to 65,000 lbs and i was in the 5th combines path, when all of a sudden the tractot starts to bog down. sure enough I berried the cart up to the tung and the tractor up to the first step. they tried to pull me out with a combine. they did get me out with a combine, but they had to cut two swaths 36ft + 36 ft to hit hard ground and they got me out.

thanks for all the questions and seeing everyone enjoying the pic. if anyone has any other questions I love answering them, bringing back good stories and memories.
