I would think you will want very good helicals. Shimmed or staked better. Channel helicals the best. The tougher they are the better off you will be with best helical setup. No peas real nearby but I believe it can be tough to convey the straw in cage without good helicals. Likely not as bad as edible beans though. Hopefully someone else with chip in hear. Good luck
I found to run your concave tighter than you would think. Had trouble cracking when we first grew them, kept opening concave sample was no better. Actually ended up running around the 3/8" mark to do a good job. Part of the issue was worn helicals as well. As Dan says make sure you have a good helical set up.
