Bought a used 99 R62 for fall and needed a new chaffer. Had a heck of a time finding a new chaffer, (must be in high demand or something). Our dealer had one on back order from Hesston and it finally came in so we bought that one. Everything looked great so we installed the new chaffer and went to set the gap to about 3/4 inch as recommended by operator's manual for soybeans and noticed the very back 4 to 6 inches of the chaffer will not adjust evenly with the rest of chaffer. It will only open probably a max of 1/2 inch. We haven't pulled the chaffer back out to inspect but didn't notice any problems before putting in. Here's my question. Is that the design of the chaffer or is there a flaw in this new chaffer we bought? Thanks for any help.

Yes that is the design of the new chaffer. The wheat/soy chaffer I leave as is but the corn chaffer I open the front up a bit (make it adjustable). I usually run the corn chaffer the same or slightly more open then the back!
