I have a '98 R72 and I was talking with my dealer and he mentioned a new kit that drops down the rear of the front feeder house floor and also smooths out the floor in the front of the rear feeder house. I was curious if this is a good deal or is he just trying to sell me some parts. I was told that the R76 come like this.

Also curious if there are any other add ons or kit is should be looking at. I mostly harvest wheat and a few peas. Thanks!!

There is a floor kit that works very well. I put one in my 99 R72 and would reccommend it to anyone. It not only lowers the rear of the front feederhouse floor but it removes a "hump" from the area between the front and rear feed chains. I installed it myself but it takes a bit of work. It will benefit you no matter what crop you harvest. I think 08 was the first year the machines came from the factory with the floor modification.

New combines have a better floor transition and less hump in them, but I think that the kit that hurtt equipment sells is even better. We put one in a r 62 and customer absolutely loves it. We will probably be putting in a lot more of them.

If you are going to that much work, I would also recommend putting in the "big" upper feeder drive shaft and removing the upper slip clutch. And if you replace that, might as well put in the 4 strand upper feed chain. Did all that to my R62 this summer, along with the drop floor kits, and it was a bean eating hog.

We put in the kit from Hurtt Equipment in our 99 R72 and absoluetely love it. You won't see much difference in corn, but it beans it is amazing. Buy a spare rotor belt as that becomes the new limiting factor instead of feeding. In my opinion it is the first improvement that should be done to an older machine. I know AGCO sells a kit now, but I'm betting the boys from ND sell theirs cheaper.

You cannot go wrong with the feederhouse kit from Hurtt equipment, it is cheap and it is no small job to put in but the results are amazing! You have to have your machine set up to flow the material and if you do you will never use the feeder house reverser even in 80 Bu green stem beans. Good luck and happy Thanksgiving! Bigboy

Update to feeder floor mod expectations!
We got started in Wheat over the last few days, and this would be the highest yielding wheat we've done in ten years at 2.8 ton/Hectare!
Very impressive with how the wheat slides in to that black hole of the feeder house now!
Both ROM and my self are both amazed with how a simple mod like this can improve things so much!
Thank's NDDAN for sussing this one out for us all! Pity it wasn't done ten years ago, and we don't have a 4 ton/Hectare+ crop to put though it!!!!

Were doing up to 9 km/Hr in the heat of the day (29degrees C) and seem to slow to about 7 kms/Hr by 9:30 pm at (18 degrees C) Next few days are meant to be in the high 30s for us, so should get some good progress.

Rolf
PS: We have an 8" posifeed rollers in both front and rear positions! We discovered that our 8" front posifeed rollers is a tad to big now, as we had to install larger front shock block/stoppers to stop the feeder chain from hitting the top of the feeder housing. Still works ok (very ok) just be aware of this if you have larger front feeder drums installed.
