Have had one since 2000. It's been a good unit. Only weak spot is the conditioner roll bearings. Have to replace them every couple years. I've wondered if the impeller on a 1442 would do a better job. Just never seen one in action.

It's found its fair share of "surprises". The tongue is tough. I found the tail end of a 5/8" guy wire from a power pole anchor that was thrown 10' into the field. Hit it at 10 mph and after peeling my face off the windshield; found out it buckled the swing cylinder. Got wrapped up and took out two modules. Got the contractor to cover that one at least.

Out doing some new rented ground and found a piece of 10" casing. Only took out one module that time.

Taken out a few modules due to rocks. This was before the shock hub update was available. It would be worth looking into.

I pull it with 130 hp 2wd. It's plenty on the flat but could use more in the hills. I think it's a good machine.

horsepower requirement depends how heavy the crop is and how fast you want to go. We pull our with 230 horsepower and can cut a good crop of hay at 12-14 mph. That may be pushing it a little hard but have been running ours for a few years now with very few issues. Did take out a module once but it was due to some net wrap getting wrapped under the disk and taking out the bearing seal.

I have operated new holland discbines since they were available doing custom cutting. Often 2000-2500 acres/year and they are good tough machines. We cut at 9 mph with 160 hp but we've cut with 120hp and u just slow down a bit if its a heavy crop.
