I have been considering growing peas and/or fababeans this year. I was just wondering is it better to seed canola or wheat the year after growing peas or fababeans? Just trying to diversify my crop rotation a bit, right now I only grow wheat and canola and occasionally some barley.

We are going into our third crop of faba beans. We have been told to rotate wheat or barley following beans. This is due to chemical residue in the soil. However we did plant canola following beans this year on one field and didn't have an issue. I believe this is due to having lots of moisture.

We grow wheat then canola after the beans. The majority of the bean stubble takes 2 years to decompose and a lot of nitrogen is in the straw, which will release throughout the entire growing seasons. We have seen a increase in protein in the wheat in the last 3 years. And a little increase in canola yield since we started growing beans.
