Pillar will be holding a demo event in the Gull Lake area on Wednesday June 25th 2014. We will be at the farm of Chuck Toney, where you can look at their 4010 Pillar Double Shoot Disc/Hoe drill in action!

We will also be doing a field tour to another nearby farm where a 60' Pillar drill seeded this spring.

Chuck- can you post directions to your farm? Best get them straight from you.

Any chance on setting up a demo day in Eastern SK or MB? Probably not for this year of course, but next year maybe???

Andrew
Should be lots of winter wheat going in about 60 miles west of me in a few months, could be an opportunity then. Maybe sooner for cover crops?

Directions to demo day. 10 miles (16kms) North of Gull Lake on hwy 37, 3 miles (5kms) west on Toney Road, turn north less than one mile north. The 60 ac field we will be seeding is on the west side of the road. The yard on the east side is not mine so be sure to be courteous to my neighbour.

This is an excellent opportunity to see a Pillar drill in the field and ask them a few questions. The newer drills have a few improvements over mine. See you there.

Pillar Mike...a guy from around Horsham, Victoria - AUS bought a pillar...is there any chance you can chase him up and get some emergence pictures? Might give us some Aussies an idea how it went?

It's out of my price range but I'm interest to know what soil disturbance and seed placement he got....

Just a thought that's all....

Out of my price range also at the moment but I like the look of them. Would be interested to see information from Horsham if there is indeed a machine there. Not that far from here but quite different conditions I would have thought.

To my knowledge, there are no Pillar machines in AUS yet. We have had plenty of inquiries but haven't found the right situation to bring anything over yet.

What sort of job will they do in heavy clay soil??
I do have a couple of quarters that are classified as Sceptre clay which is gumbo and I have seeded it with a Pillar the last two years. I put barley on one quarter and chickpeas on the other. It was getting on the drier side so I put the chickpeas down the disc and fertilizer through the seed boot thinking the seed would be deeper and in moisture and found out later after digging that the soil doesn't close behind the disc as well as it closes behind the seed boot in gumbo so from now on the seed will always go through the seed boot. The barley was seeded on the other quarter a few days later through the seed boot and germination was perfect. I pulled this drill through a lot of mud this year with times as much as 20 % slip on tractor and never had a run plug or disc quit turning from mud.
