I had about 550 acres planted with my 2600 this year. It didn't work out all that well with a cold winter and not as much stooling as is normal. Had too much space between the rows for weeds to come up.

Last year it worked great.. this year, not as much.

We are also looking at trying this, we will be using either a 12 row 20 in planter or 36 20's. How tricky is it getting the desired rate?

JDD, that wheat looks exactly like what we want and we'll be hitting it all with a burn down in the spring to kill it and any weeds then plant corn or soybeans into it. Is there anything special about the plate or could a guy make his own? We might be leaving roughly 40 acres of it to harvest and use as seed for the next year. Am I correct that we won't be considered as stealing traits if the original seed comes from a private seller/farmer straight out of his field since we haven't signed into agreement with a seed company?

Sorry for not checking back. Nothing special about our plates. They are about .030 thick and have a strip of foam rubber around the inside outer edge to make it seal out good. My dad got them from this guy (link) back in the day... you could definitely make your own if you wanted.
