I have a R72, #77005. There seems to be play in the main PTO shaft in the spline! I changed the bearing last year,but the main belt does not run smooth. Also if you put your hand on the step that houlds the bearing you can feel a knock. With the belt on or off. Someone thought their was a Mod for that shaft? Please help!! Thanks.

Did you change the splined coupling probably wore out along with the shaft. Sometimes dirt collects aroound the inside and can create a big vibration

Have had that happen twice on a 97 r72,first time it chewed splines right off shaft lucky it happened in the yard.T wo years later noticed splines were wearing again turns out engine was sitting crooked.CHECK your engine motor mount it may be cracked,also had to shim motor mounnts with dial indicater on PTO shaft .End of problem
