prodrive failure

should I be worried about prodrive failure in a s690? waiting for the dec. RB auction in Saskatoon that has a great selection of s690's.no real way to know what kind of a previous life these units have had but it sounds like they just fail. don't want to be roadgearing my new purchase home and have a 40 grand tranny blow apart! hope to save a whack of cash from dealer price to auction price but no guarantees. will take a chance anyways, but hate when some smart ars says told ya so.

I have done some serious mud bogging, stucks, and have extreme hills, AND I run 50bu. Hopper extensions making the 450bu...if any one is gonna kill a trans, it's gonna be me... I have yet to have any sort of transmission failure on any of them

The only thing I don't like is when 1st shifts to second, sometimes it seems the trans is gonna leap out of the machine! So I got dealer to make button 1 only stay in first gear, and button 2 is allowed to start in 1st, then shift to 2nd... much easier on the trans.
There are 3-4 options for shifting I believe.

From RB, always expect some kind of repair...

great but it seems the next guy who puts his in the shed every night blows his apart moving down the road.every color has their good and bad points but if there's a dud out there i'll get it! good info on the shifting will check that out with the service guys
I worked as a john deere mechanic for four years, over that time we fixed about one per season, which I think is pretty reasonable. Of the ones we fixed, only 2 were complete wrecks, and those happens before the machines made 500 hours. the other ones where park brake problems which i think were caused by the operator.

There sure is a helluva clunk when it shifts up. I think it shifts around 9.5-10mph so if you set the high speed of button 1 to less than that, it won't shift up in button 1. (To set the high speed, press button 1 then turn that dial on the side of the console. This works for button 2 as well). Is that all they did, hihi? Or was it something else?

Prodrive is pretty neat feature. I usually have my max speed in 1 at 8-10mph but in tough canola, slowed it down to 5-6 just to give me better speed control going through lumps, all done on the fly without having to stop and shift.... no stop-and-shift when leaving and entering fields...

No, that just basic operation. There is an address you can change (I have the sheet in the combine)
I believe there are 3 or 4 different settings for prodrive.

1:
Button 1 - gear 1 only, speed limited 12mph. Button 2 - gear 2 only, must stop to shift either button.

2:
Button 1 - gear 1 only, speed limited to 10mph. Button 2 any speed, shifts auto up and down, must stop when going to button 1.

3:
Button 1 any speed. Button 2 any speed.. auto shift up and down both buttons, must stop when going to button 1, this is factory

4:
I forget how this one works? If it exists..

I personally use selection 2, this way workers don't dick with the speeds, causing it to shift unnecessarily when in the field. Selection 1 seems dumb as it would be hard starting from a stop in gear 2.

When in 4wd it shifts really hard uphill sometimes as there is so much traction, selection 2 seems best for me, level land is fine for selection 3.

Do they allow mechanics to go in a Look at stuff? I would try and get a JD tech to go in and have a quick look. It’s basically some bolts in there breaking, coming loose or falling out is the problem.
Or maybe you could get an oil sample from the gearbox..........

Not a big fix if caught in time.
Where I worked, we took apart everyone one of them that failed, and rebuild them if it was possible. We never opened them to just replace bolts though. I do remember on one that had parked brake problems finding bolts loose. They weren't causing the problem but probably saved that prodrive.
<EDIT FOR TRANSLATION:

Hello!

I have the same problem when I start it pulls when changing gears. Can I set it to start in 2nd gear?

what could be causing this problem?

Thanks for the reply!
Helló!
Ugyanez a problémám, amikor elindítom, húz, ha sebességet vált. Be tudom állítani, hogy 2. fokozatban induljon?
mi okozhatja ezt a problémát?

Köszönöm a választ!

Thats cause you worked for a dealer that made most of its money from servicing. Selling the things brings next to no income, servicing is where the gold is. And if they just fix whats wrong or will fail soon the bill will be too small. But if its a complete rebuild $$$$$$ And yes I do understand this is an old thread revived by another poster.
