I have had Shurco Protrap openers: ProTrap® - Shurco.com on my grain trailers in the past and loved them. I wanted to add some to another trailer this spring and ordered some more, but they showed up as Autotrap openers: AutoTrap? - Shurco.com

Doesn't really say on the website what the differences are but the company response was that "if ordered with Smart2 remote it will function the same as a Protrap". It has a different motor and a less fancy mudflap as well. No big deal but one thing that concerns me is will the Autotrap give me a status of what % open the trap is? This is one of the main reasons I liked the Protrap so much!

So has anybody got experience with both, or with the Autotrap and Smart2 remote? Kind of like to be sure before I turn it into "used" equipment...

Thanks for all the replies!:sFun_Sleeping_Pillo

I hooked one up and set some limits and the Autotrap gives it's status to the Smart2 remote. So it looks like it will work just fine.:)

I know they redesigned the motor and the mounting so its supposed to have better clearance. That didn't really answer your question tho. So they display % like the old ones? I want a set of Auto/pro traps when I get a super b.
Yes it has more clearance. Got a set installed today and they actually hang down less than the Wilson cranks do! They also show % open/closed which would be impossible for me to live without now. They must be ordered with the Smart2 remote to have that feature though I think. Will have to use them a bit to see how much power they have compared to my Protraps. I will try to post a picture of the installed unit next week.

draww8 the Michel's look good too, but when looking at trailers this winter they cost a fortune to add on at the factory. Did you do 2 hoppers and a tarp? What was the cost? I guess I have been very satisfied with the Shurco stuff and the 2 traps with electric tarp cost $4000 so I figured that is reasonable. Took a little over a day for 2 guys to do a really neat install on the system including a few screw-ups, next trailer would take under a day for sure...

Below a picture of clearance. Not sure about the second pic though...
