I don't have a CDL, but I see a lot of custom harvest companies advertise that they will help you get your CDL. My question is, would I be better off getting my CDL ahead of time vs. once I'm hired? I could take a school course for it, but it would probably cost me close to $2000 for a 35 hour course. Any good reason I should spend the money to do that? I have no previous experience driving tractor-trailer, but I do have some experience driving class B trucks (fire department, no CDL required for emergency vehicles).

Don't take the course, I came to america to join up with a harvest crew in April with no experience driving trucks, getting the license is easy, and in north Dakota is extremely cheap (50-60 dollars). Not sure what it is elsewhere but I would defiantly not pay 2,000 for a course .
