I just bought a 94 model r-42. The accelerator roll sprockets look good, but they sound horrible (very loud). Is this normal? On the right hand side I adjusted the idler sprocket to provide deeper tooth engagement, but it didn't help. Any advice? I have never had a gleaner before, so I am new to this. TIA.

Have you turned them by hand with the belt off to see if they are turning freely? A couple things I might check are whether the lugs are out of time and maybe hitting but that is unlikely, bearings might be ready to go too. What kind of noise is it? Is it a grinding noise or more of a popping noise?

The sound is a loud ringing noise. It is definitely coming form the sprockets. The accelerator rolls were just put in new at the dealership, so I would expect them to be timed properly but I will doulble check that. This noise is so loud that I have to cover my ears when I stand next to the combine running full throttle. It is the same noise on both sides of machine as well.

We had that happen once. Is it the timing gears for the accelerator rolls? After the accelerator rolls were pulled out to be replaced and put back in with the new ones it made that howling ringing noise. It seems like the square cut timing gears had too much pressure and we loosened the bearing flanges and stuck a screwdriver in between the timing gears to force them a little further apart and then retightened the bearings and then the sound totally disappeared but it was very loud and annoying.

Hope that helps.
