Any tips on how you are setting up for canola would be appreciated. I have seen posts on this site about how the transverse machines do not perform correctly in this crop. What does everyone do to make them work? I am running a 1991 R60 with sunybrook insides and just today I added a 3" board at back of top sieve. I will need more time to check out losses, but what are acceptable seed counts behind a machine and at what location in relation to the machine spread pattern? I always find canola seeds behind the machine, but factor in shelling from the swath and small seeds like this are tough to keep in. If I turn the wind down or open the bottom sieve the sample gets dirty fast. I cannot afford to throw this seed over so thanks for any helpful hints

I'll try give you a couple tips for Canola and your setup. You want to reduce as much MOG from going to shoe as you can. I would imagine you have gen two Sunny in that P3 equiped machine. They make rotor sweeps for that rotor these days. Check for reverse bars and I would remove if so equiped. Tougher job but could redo helicals in thresher side of cage to prevent second pass over concave. Very important in Canola is good accelerator rolls (shouldn't be able to swipe ball point pen back and forth between the rolls). Hopefully someone else can help you with other questions.

Thanks for the info. I tried that 3 inch board on the top of the sieve but it caused some grief so I removed it and kept going with the machine as I have all fall. I am more than happy with the performance of the machine in this crop, and I only have to watch my rotor speed. Too fast causes overthresh when it is dry and I have plugged my distribution augers once this year. I have a lot of material in these swaths and that big table auger and feeder house eat it up with minimal issues. I am always watching for losses, but canola will shell a lot right at the point of picking it up so it is tough to tell sometimes. I will finish up today I hope, and then time to decide if it will get hyperized through this cold Canadian winter. Thanks for all the help nddan. I have some relatives in Devils Lake ND, if I ever get down there maybe I can run over and see your place. Cheers.
