Ok. We have had this combine 10 years and we work the out of it. We do 450 acres of corn and 450 acres of beans thru it. Now....every year we have to put a new one on. We rarely work at night. A new altenator yearly.


Why? Dust? something else? comments

Is it deutz? I have had bad luck out of after factory alternators on deutz engines, they can't handle the heat

Well then, that answers that. Of course it is a Deutz motor. After I posted that I called an old mechanic and he said dust, heat, all everything inbetween.

Put a larger diameter pulley on the alternator to slow it down, we had the same problem when running our old G's

Replaced our the first time this year on my R50 due to bearing failure. Had it for 6 years and never a problem. There is a hose coming from the fan duct that blows air on the Alt. I run at night alot and never had problems. Neighbor was over when I was changing it and he seen that hose back there. He mentioned that his old machine had problems and it didn't have that hose there.
