How does a Gleaner R42 compare to a IH rotary? Are there bearing or other problems to worry about. Rotor? What about engines? Don't know much about these. Any help appreciated. looking to move from Green. Gleaner dealer within 20 miles.
I've had an R series for the last 10 years, don't see any bearing issues. As far as rotor, there are many modifications that can be done to gain capacity. Engine would be either Duetz or Cummins. As long as they are maintained, both good, oil leaks will kill a Duetz. The Gleaner and IH should be comparable, depends on who you talk to though.
A very nice 4 row wide/6 row narrow corn/soybean machine as long as it's in good shape (helical bars, cylinder bars, accelerator roll lugs, feeder chains/slats, etc) There are changes from the 1991/1992 units to the 1993 and newer models and even more changes in 1996 with the longer cleaning sieves. Cummins are fine and Deutz is as well until you have trouble.
