Dealer got a decent R65 on trade so I got thinking about maybe upgrading combines from R55 to R65.

My current '04 R55 - 1200/850 hrs (excellent), 6CTA8.3 Cummins, RWA, 800/65-32 Michelin (new) fronts, Ag Leader Integra monitor.

Dealer '05 R65 - 2050/1500 (very good), QSC8.3 Cummins (CAPS), RWA, LTM (Smartrac), Dual returns, 800/65-32 Firestones (70%), Fieldstar monitor.

R65 is priced at $135k. What should my R55 be worth?

I really dont like idea of losing 700hrs on the separator but some of the reasons to go with 65 are LTM (maybe a draper in the future?) and the wider throat should handle wheat and canola better. I'm under 1000ac so the R55 is fine but I do work off the farm as well so timeliness is important. No expansion planned either.

The Capacity difference will be huge, you will not like going from Ag Leader to Fieldstar. I would definitely upgrade the combine so that it is Ag Leader. If you upgrade to TLM your corn head has to be newer that 1998, and your grain head is at least an 800 series. Has the R65 combine been upgrade to a CDF rotor?

There will always be a better trade number out there.. Likely the same gleaner r65 on the dealers lot next year. It will also give you time to know if the mods will be enough and get you a year closer and more hours..
Often dealers will change there tune a year from now.

I would have to ponder a while before I traded for the unknown, especially one with many more hours. One breakdown could obviate all the capacity increase for the year...

Sounds like a lot of money for a 65....or not...
