Posting this question for a friend who has a 93' R62 w/cummins engine. He is currently harvesting milo, and is having all of the lights go out after staying on for only 1-2 minutes. He claims to have replaced the main electrical breaker coming off engine, and checked resistors located on rh rear of machine. Moving to cab, the main solenoid for cab electrical sytem he has replaced, plus the (2)Agco 40 amp resistors for the lights, and he has also cleaned off paint on cab ground. All of this and he is still having problems not being able to harvest at night. I did tell him to check out the interior cab ground eyelets as he did not that one of them appeared to have a blackened connection. Also would like to know what does the 2amp/10ohm resistor located in cab panel do?

Note: He also replaced the alternator with new Agco alt. claims needle(on voltmeter overhead) pulls down considerably at night to grn/yellow border. Could alt. regulator be causing this when machine is warm? Any help would be much appreciated!

With that age of a machine I would suspect a wire rubbing bare somewhere especially if it is just the lights going dead. If everything electrical shuts down including the seperator and header clutch then the main electrical breaker is tripping. He could try adding a cheap 10 or 20 amp breaker with some jumper wires to the main one. If the low voltage warning light comes on he should not continue to use the machine as this will certainly destroy the electric clutches as they require a minimum of 12 volts.

The same thing came to mind too as something simple as one wire rubbbed through. Just a matter of tracing it down.

whats voltage at alternator with all systems on should be 13.5, check all grounds, are batterys charged up, need to do this first to see what voltage is at, scott.

That is same thing I was asking, whether or not a voltage check had been done. If it were me I would start from back of combine and work my way to cab. My friend is approx. 150 miles away custom cutting milo in southern west texas.

Talked to him last night and he said that new 105amp alt was overcharging after roading for 35 miles. He has new 130amp alt from dealer arriving this morning so hopefully this is the culprit. Thanks for the help guys!
