Most 2188 came from the factory with the two starand chains. You can up date them to the three strand chain. Why would you want to go back to the two strand? The two strand chain slats bend and crack more often than the three strands and the two independant sprockets wear loose on the hex shaft. The tripple sprocket tube adds extra support to the shaft and has a larger surface area to wear or grip the surface of the hex shaft.

Yes you can change back to the 2 strand chain. Just pull out the triple and put in the double and you are good to go. We always swap out the triple come corn harvest. We feel the triple chain with serrations was too aggressive for corn and caused too much kernal damage. Otherwise the triple is much better for small grain and soys.
