Billy,

I've run a 9600 and 9610 the last couple summers and we always start with the settings shown in the book as well as the chart that is in armrest in the cab. Then we always fine tune the machine according to the sample in the grain tank as well as the loss over the shoe. I hope that helps.

I could never figure out why they want the precleaner in wheat and most setting for these machines to be closed. I harvest alot of wheat making 4 tons per acre and we open the precleaner matching the seive gap and the results are great, less loss, better ground speed, and its as clean in the hopper as with text book settings. My Dad always told me that the book was basic and meant for machines in areas with lower yields. Seems once again He is right, I guess it happens when youve been cutting for the last 30 years. I too came from a 7720 past, I just treate the precleaner like a seive and have had good results.
